Micah Schneider wins state wrestling title

Micah Schneider stands on the wrestling mat. The ref holds Schneider’ s arm up in triumph, and he is nearly in tears. This marked the end of his final wrestling season, with a new state championship award to show for it.
Schneider, senior, competed and won state champion in wrestling. He practiced all season to win after coming in third last year at the state wrestling match.
“Winning state this year was building up from my past seven years,” Schneider said, “losing by just one point in semi-finals last year really fueled me to be able to go so far this year. I thought to myself if I could make it that far last year, I should be able to go all the way this year.”
The match was held at Cimarron High School. If a wrestler ends up in the final match of the tournament, they will have wrestling in three matches throughout the day. Winning all three will leave them the state champ.
“Micah put many hours into training in order to win this title,” wrestling coach Mr. Lunblad said, “his support system was very helpful to keep him motivated including his practice partner Cole Kazel.”
Prior to this year, the last time a Foothill wrestler won state was Wyatt English twice a few years ago. Schneider hopes to help inspire a new wrestler to win within the next couple of years.
Schneider is looking forward to wrestling in college at Embry-Riddle College. He will attend in the fall and is going on scholarship in order to continue his wrestling career.
