Flag football

Freshmen Flag Football:

Everyday after school the freshman flag football team prepares to get a good practice in with their new coach Mr. Mayes. The girls actually continue to have positive outlooks and hope for their games in the future. Although our freshman team has yet to win any games everyone on the team still has confidence and tries harder every game “Why I think we lost all our games is because of the lack of communication and players would blame things on each other,” says freshman Kassidy Foley
Just because they lost the games they have had so far they all still love being on the team due to being able to build new relationships with new people. “Everyone on the team is so positive and supportive. It’s great to have such a bond with those girls,” says freshman Hailey Angell.
For the girls that made the team they all said it was pretty easy to get on the team as long as you go to intramurals and have confidence. “For the girls next year if you really want to do something go for it and give it your all. Don’t let anyone change your opinion on something you enjoy,” says Kassidy Foley.

Austin Hansen walks up to the plate, the pitcher stares him dead in the eyes. The catcher gives him a sign, pitcher shakes it off. He finally gets one he likes and throws. Ball. He tries again. Another ball. Two more tries and both were balls. Austin gets a walk. This is one of three of his walks in the match against Faith Lutheran that took place on Thursday, March 7.
The Falcons came out on top with a score of 9-4. The team had a rough start in the second inning when the catcher made a mistake which cost the Falcons to give up two runs. They made it up in the next inning by hitting an RBI double. “We really capitalized on runners and that helped us out a lot,” said Hansen.
A highlight of the game was when the Falcons scored six runs in a singular inning. “It was funny because coach showed up late, but when he came we just kept scoring run after run. We all kept saying he’s our good luck charm,” said Aidan Auth with a laugh.
This was a scrimmage game to gauge the team’s strengths and weaknesses for the upcoming season. The team was strong at bat, but is still working on reducing the number of errors on the field.

Allyson Fox steps onto the baseball court early Saturday morning, hoping that she can make the softball team. “On tryout day… all of our skills were put to the test,” she says.
The softball season is currently in full swing. “It’s early,” said coach Mayes, “we’re just barely getting into the heart of our league play. We use a couple tournaments to get going”.
The team’s warm ups consist of stretching, throwing and catching, and running, after that, they go to the field to practice different game situation, like steals and fly-balls.
The girls tried out for softball for a variety of reasons. Leah Becker, for example, said she joined because, “it’s been a family tradition and I love the sport”. The fee for softball that the team payed for is $430, which includes uniforms, cleats, and jackets. the team is currently aiming for the state championships, which would make it the 6th time they went there. With a confident team and coach on their side, the team has a decent shot at making the list.
